Neck Lift

A neck lift is the surgical tightening of the neck by the excision of excess skin and fat of the neck, as well as elimination of neck bands.

As we age, the skin of the neck loses its elasticity, and muscles of the neck weaken. As a result, the loose and sagging appearance of the aged neck develops. Additionally, excess fat, as well as descent of glands and other muscles, contribute to the aged neck appearance. The procedure will improve the jawline and the neck angle, as well as eliminate creases and neck bands.

Searching for neck lift in Las Vegas, NV, is also common among people who have had significant weight loss or a botched procedure. Rapid weight loss can lead to sagging skin, while a botched surgery may lead to irregular fat distribution or an excessively taut appearance.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR THE PROCEDURE?

  • Patients with excess or hanging skin of the neck
  • Patients with neck banding
  • Patients with excess fat deposits in the neck
  • Patients with a poorly defined jawline

HOW IS A NECK LIFT PERFORMED?

Preparation for a neck lift surgery involves a consultation to determine the right procedure for you and if your expectations can be met. Your surgeon will examine your facial nerve function and current appearance, and may provide health advice such as smoking cessation.

Depending on the type of procedure, you may only need sedation and local anesthetic, or general anesthesia. The incisions made during thet surgery generally begin in the hairline, travel down behind the ear, and end in the hairline. Your skin and superficial muscles are repositioned and fixed into place.

In the simplest procedure, known as a cervicoplasty, your surgeon uses a small incision to remove excess skin. A platysmaplasty focuses on the platysma, a sheet-like muscle that lies under your skin. A weakened, sagging platysma can leave you with visible vertical neck bands. If it sags in the center of your neck, you get a “turkey neck”. The platysmaplasty type of neck lift surgery corrects this by realigning and tightening the platysma muscle.

Your procedure may include liposuction if you have excess fat under your chin despite an overall normal fat distribution. Here, a small liposuction cannula removes fat responsible for a “double chin”, or neck fullness, through tiny incisions behind your ears and under your chin.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AND FACELIFT AND A NECK LIFT?

A facelift is more comprehensive than a neck lift. Every facelift surgery will also include a neck lift; however, a facelift will address the jawline and cheeks which are not addressed with a neck lift alone. Patients whose only concern are excess neck skin or bands without any issues with the jawline or cheek may be suitable candidates for the procedure.

The neck lift cost varies and depends a lot on a number of factors, please schedule a consultation with our facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Mehdi Sina and find out everything about this treatment.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECOVER FROM THE SURGERY?

After the procedure, patients typically return to work in 10 to 14 days. Full healing from surgery can take several weeks; however, patients can resume normal activities in a couple of weeks and can begin working out at 3 weeks.
